Events
With the help of its dedicated group of volunteers KVAT runs a wide range of arts events throughout the year, focusing particularly on education and participatory experiences which have been a consistent theme of our artistic vision.
In 2009 we put on a diverse selection of films for the Riverbank Film Club including ”The Duchess”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “The Young Victoria”, “Cherie” and “Dorian Gray”. In May we had two silent movies screenings: Buster Keaton favourites with music by James Harpen.
In April we supported a children's workshop run by History Alive in The Merchant's House for 11 -13 year old's. 12 children enjoyed a day finding out about life in 1658 through Mr Thomas Bayley, a silk merchant, and his household.
We were lucky to be able to bring back Jack Gibbons to play in St Peter's Church again, with his beautiful playing of Gershwin and some of his own compositions.
We also held a very successful Summer Garden Party where we were entertained by David Benson singing Noel Coward songs and jazz played by George Haslam.
In September “The Locrian Ensemble” played at St Peter’s Church. The Watermill Touring Production Co. visited with “Bu88le5”, playing in the Town Hall.
A very special talk was entitled "A Visit to the Pantomime" - Chris Harris of panto fame visited the Wesley Hall to give a talk on pantomime. Chris is playing in, and directing, this year's production of "Sleeping Beauty" at The Theatre Royal, Bath.
One of our most exciting new initiatives is a series of Drama Clubs, which were run, in partnership with 'We Love Marlborough', at local schools for children aged seven to 11. These were led by Stuart Harvey, an experienced young person’s theatre director.
More are planned for next year.
The KVAT events are important to our mission in their own right, but also serve to demonstrate our value as a long-term partner with Wiltshire Council.
